general issues with media center

just thought of sharing this info.some quick fixes for common mce issues

1)DVD Shocked decoder error while trying to play dvds in mce

check if the decoder is instaleld.uninstall and reinstall it and also upgrade it.
normally its cyber link power dvd.also try to download the trial version ofnvidia pure video decoder from www.nvidia.com that will also solve many other display problems in mce

2)tuner not found error

check if the tuner drivers are installed..go to device manager and under sound video and game controllers chek the tuner.try to upgrade the tuner drivers if no go then reseat the tuner and try again.try to run the diagnostics on tuner if any available

3)unable to change channels

check the batteries.then try to press the buttons on your mce remote and see if the light on the remote is blinking.then point the remote towards the ir transiever check if the led is blinking.go to the device manager and under human interface devices see if the ehome infrared transiever is listed.try to uninstall and reinstall it.if u have a settop box then u should have a ir transmitter cable connected from ur ir reciever to the setop box.the ir emitter should be stuck exactly on the ir reciever of settop box.then press the buttons on remote and check to see if the iremitter on settop box is blinking or not.if not try to swap the ports of the ir transmeter cable at the back of the ir tranciever.

thats it folks thsese are the basic things for these common issues in MCE

any other fixes or issues just post them guyz

great post you could also check with few more decoders like :

http://www.elecard.com/ftp/pub/mpeg/decoder/EMpgDec20.zip

If you are getting decoder error after installaton of thease software than you must be having some kinds of conflicts between 2 decoders so please jsut try to check decoder is currently used by mce and how many decoders are installing and you could also do it by using a free tool from microsoft :

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=de1491ac-0ab6-4990-943d-627e6ade9fcb&displaylang=en&Hash=PH97TJC

regards
good luck

tuner not found!

with this problem, what u can also try is to remove the .netframework and the update rollup2 from the add/remove programs and then redo all the software windows updates and this should fix the problem Smile
