Backup hard disk partitions using Image for Windows

Image for Windows - Description

Image for Windows is a Win32 based backup and restore utility that creates a snapshot of an entire partition or volume to a set of files to a local or network drive, or directly to most CD-R/RW or DVD+RW/+R/-R/-RW drives creating a bootable restore disc. If something should ever happen to that partition or volume, you'll be able to simply restore the snapshot image.

Using the free PHYLock™ add-on utility you can continue to use your computer while the backup is locked to a point-in-time. This eliminates the inconsistencies typically experienced while backing up a partition that is in use.

A full featured 30-day trial version of Image for Windows is available from Terabyte Unlimited. Full version is available at less than $30, and it's worthy investment. This software is my personal favorite, and I've used this to backup different sets of my Windows XP Configuration, one partition contains a clean install of XP with device drivers loaded. I use this configuration to test a variety of products etc.. (Configuration 1)

Another installation includes device drivers, firewall, anti-virus, all other essential utilities that I use, configure the news reader, user profile customizations etc. (Configuration 2)

In Configuration 1, I use Image for Windows very often, to return the partition to the default configuration, after testing various utilities, REG edits etc.

Select the partition that you want to backup

Select the destination drive to store the Image. To create a bootable restore CD, select the CD-RW. Storing the image in the hard disk will be much faster.
