Restore missing Time Zones in Windows XP

SYMPTOM

When you open the Date and Time Properties and click the Time Zone tab, it shows only one Time Zone entry in the drop down (example: Time zone in India, GMT +05:30 Chennai, Calcutta, Mumbai, New Delhi). Also the map below shows only the India map instead of the entire World map. This does not let the user change his Time Zone.

This happens due to missing registry keys which contain the Time Zone information for different parts of the World

RESOLUTION

> From another Windows XP system, open Registry Editor (regedit.exe)

> Export the following key to a REG file:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Time Zones

> Save the key to a removable media, transfer and apply to the subject computer.
