I suggest that you use one of the packages available to install PHP and MySQL in one go. That way you dont need to install each thing seperatley and then learn how to configure them properly.

I use foxserv from www.foxserv.net, although there appears to be little activity there now, so I might try and find another.

Well that is somewhat different, I gave that opinion coming from the website development area, if you wish to use Visual Basic in conjunction with MySQL then you have left my area of expertise, sorry.

well if you want to use vb or vb.net you should have visual studio or visual studio.net for coding and backend you can use access or oracle and you need some knoweledge for odbc connection and obviously you need a veb server and it depends which os you are using and you can go for iis and pws if you are using windows xp or 98 Smile

well this may solve your problems Smile

cheers
